This is probably nothing at all like you were expecting but this is what came out. ^_^;;;

This is [info]dungeons_master's prompt: Snape/Lupin - Handmade presents

Very few people knew that Severus Snape was diabetic. It was hardly a conversation starter in the castle with hundreds of teenagers looking for a new reason to mock him. He rose early every morning and took his insulin potion with the nurse and then went about his business. He had to be careful what he ate and how much. His illness wasn’t much of a problem for him. Severus hated being outdoors and he did not usually want to eat very much. He preferred to spend his time in a quiet corner with one of his books.

As he was ending his Seventh Year, he had more than a passing knowledge of the potion that he was consuming on a daily basis. He had begun to brew his own potion on occasion and knew that he would be able to ensure that he always had a dose of it ready once he graduated. It was a satisfactory feeling.

He had not been expecting however that Slughorn would direct him to teach another student to complete it as a detention. He did not even recall how the detention was earned, but he was certain that it was well deserved. Severus arrived at the potions’ classroom at the exact time that he was instructed to only to learn that it was Lupin that he would be forced to teach.

The following three hours were among the most painful that he could remember. Lupin was the worst student that he had ever seen in Potions. If it had not been for his quick reflexes they would have been blown sky high nearly eight times through the process. Lupin was quiet and apologetic throughout. It was irritating to watch him simper rather than continue on with the work. They could have completed the potion in half the time if Lupin had not been so incompetent.

Severus went to sleep that evening tired and ready to forget that the entire incident even occurred.

The following morning, Severus woke early and went to collect his potion from the nurse. This time however there was no nurse, only a note.

Severus,

I know that you probably won’t appreciate the effort that I put into this, but I wanted to give you something small before it was too late. We’ve known each other for seven years, and you may hate me because of what I am and who my friends are, but I’ve never once hated you. I’ve always wanted to know you better and maybe even be your friend. I’m sure you’d say that it would never be possible, but I had to tell you.

I asked Slughorn to lie to you about the detention because I knew you’d never help me otherwise. I wouldn’t have been able to do this without you, and here’s the fruit of our labor. It’s just a small gift, but I put all of my heart into it.

Remus Lupin

The note was leaning against his usual potion vial and he stared down at it in surprise. The note barely made any sense. It had to have been a joke, but the nurse would have never allowed it. From a sniff of the vial it was indeed the potion that they had brewed the day before. Severus had been the one to bring it to the hospital wing and there was no way it could have been tampered with under the watchful eye of the school nurse.

Severus took the potion as he was always prescribed to. It seemed to be exactly the same as always. He shrugged faintly and shoved the note into his satchel. There was no reason for him to concern himself with the letter. After all, they would be leaving the school forever in just two days.

*laughs* That's really funny. I know a lot of diabetic people (grandparents mostly) and it was interesting how this one just sprang up from nothing. I'm glad that you enjoyed this. ^_^

You know, reading it again, I think I like it better than I did the first time.

Maybe I was just put off by the whole diabetes thing... I'm the chubby/old person type X_X. Especially the old person part.

Hmmm, if I'm going to post here, maybe I should arse myself to at least install a default avvie
