"I'm Sorry" - Sirius/Remus
First posted: 02-10-2005
Title: "I'm sorry..."
Rating: G
Pairing: SB/RL
Notes: This was intended to be a longer fic, but as I have no idea whatsoever where it was going, I have no intention of actually completing it. It is obviously completely AU as it would seem I'm more fond of writing these days. Please excuse any minor tense problems as I'm more then certain there's a bunch. I didn't bother to have someone beta this.
"Sirius Black!"
What a way to start a story. I'm being lectured again. There is of course only one person that is allowed to do any sort of lecturing and that would happen to be one Remus J. Lupin. He's rushing into the room now with that scary look on his face that says that I've been foolish again.
"How many times do I have to tell you to keep that bloody broom of yours locked away? Do you realize that Harry 'found' your precious bloody broom and managed to break his arm...AGAIN!" Remus roars at me.
I try to look apologetic. It's really the only thing that I can do in these circumstances. He and I both know that I did that on purpose. It's not as if a broken bone is something that can't be fixed easily. We're both highly skilled wizards with plenty of first aid experience under our belts. Remus has always been of the opinion that it doesn't mean that we should let him get himself into trouble anyway. I just think he should be allowed to have fun every once and a while.
"No don't bother apologizing. You're bloody pathetic. You're not even listening to me right now! You'll only leave the broom out for him to play with later. Why do I even bother with you? You're an insufferable bloody bastard and I'm sick of it!"
Uh oh. Well this just made the start to my story that much more interesting now doesn't it? Remus turns to storm out of the room and I rush up to chase after him, grabbing for his arm desperately.
"Now don't go on like that. Honestly we just have a difference of opinion on the whole idea. James has never said anything about it before so there's no reason to have a row over it."
"Of course James hasn't said anything. Lily can't get him to lock up his broom either. THe both of you encourage him to get himself hurt!"
"No we don't. He wants to fly. You telling him no isn't going to stop him from wanting to fly.
"If you're so bloody interested in him flying why don't you actually teach him yourself? Why do you keep letting him get himself hurt?"
Admittedly I have no good excuse for that. I leave the broom out and about because Remus has never liked the idea of me letting Harry fly it. He never said I couldn't teach him, but he never really made it seem like that was what he'd rather I do.
"Oh did it just occur to you that perhaps it would be a good idea for you to teach him to fly? You really are a complete idiot!"
"Now see here. What's the point of name-calling? You never seemed to want me to even show him how to fly properly."
"I'd much rather you be there with him when he goes about on that broom then you staying in here waiting to patch him up later!"
"Well then I'll be certain to do that in the future."
"That doesn't fix things right now! You're still an idiot."
I frown at Remus, crossing my arms in annoyance. "Then what the bloody hell should I do about it?"
Remus gives me another angry look and walks away. "When you figure that out, I'll be in my office."
So now I'm alone in my living room wondering what in the world I can do to fix things. What exactly do you do when you've angered your loved one? I really don't know what Remus wants me to do. It's not like I can go back in time to stop Harry from flying. It's almost impossible to get a Time Turner.
"Sirius?"
Ah yes, the object of our discussion. I turn to see my godson staring at me in the doorway, his right arm in a sling. I'm sure Remus forced him to wear it despite the fact that he easily healed the broken bone. Just another way to make me feel guilty. I just know it.
"Uh...Sirius? I think this is the part where you apologize to Remus."
I blinked at him in surprise. For a long moment I just stare at him dumbfounded, until what he said finally sinks in. Now I know I'm a complete ass. That was probably the most obvious thing in the whole world. Harry is just shaking his head at me. Why do I feel like I'm being mocked by a seven year old?
